What I Did Last Weekend

That's me on the right. I'm about 15 feet tall!
This was for the Cuba Carnival, which happens once every 2 years and brought out more people than any other event in Wellington, I hear, including the big closing event parade thing when Lord of the Rings wrapped up (it was based in Welly). My friend ed made these over 2 weeks, tho I did the headdress and the roses my skeleton bride is holding, and painted the hands and feet and faces. And learned to walk on stilts. There were three of us. That's Tom on my right as the witch doctor, and Ed was another one with a top hat, the skeleton groom. We were supposed to have a mariachi band, but they got ahead of us in the parade and we ended up by a samba band, which didn't quite match, but we were happy to groove to while coordinating not falling down in the always-crazy winds. Each of us had a spotter, thankfully, and I only had a couple rough spots where i almost went down. Nothing like trying to stay upright in gale-force gusts while on 3 foot stilts with 9 feet of fiberglass above you. I was terrified at first, but ended up very proud at not falling. Then afterwards we danced and danced and made merry. See my picture from Meg's post for evidence. Yes, that's a lampshade hat.

If you want to see more about the carnival, this link may get you there. Or else if you're quick, go to www.dominionpost.co.nz, and click on the link for the slideshow of the Cuba Carnival.

oh and tons more pics of the skeletons are on my facebook site. Momma, are YOU on facebook yet? It's so silly, but also so helpful.
