The devlopment of this blog reminds me a bit of the oft-told story of very young Meg and her ill-fated piano lessons.

Meg was given homework to practice a particular piece. The next lesson, her teacher played through the song once, and then turned the piano over to little Meg. As the story goes, the teacher watched closely as Meg took to the keys very calm and controlled, then proceeded to increase in speed and enthusiasm as she wandered off the score widely into her own compositional improv. When she finished, Meg turned to look up to her silent, drop-jawed instructor sitting on the bench next to her. She reached up, grabbed her teacher's nose, and squeezed twice, saying "honk honk!"

From "don't fence me in" piano renegade to revered restaurant office manager, you've come a long way baby!

Yes, it's true. That Meggie is a wild child, and her creative streak is a force to be reckoned with. Meg, I'm always surprised at your prodigious creativity. Maybe because it comes out in such bursts, or maybe because you didn't really express it often when you were little.

I guess I should just let the blog be what it will be. Who really wants reign in creativity?

So go crazy, y'all.

Hooray for Chaos!
Whopee for B and D and G and L and all the letters we will explore and go back over and sorry for throwing a wrench in your organizational alphabet, Bet, but I do humbly appreciate you all holding my hand in order to get here.
Without you.
and this blog site...
I would be bored to death at work.
NOw I feverishly write about my favorite letters!
Haha!
R! and W!
I can't wait till we get to X!

Oh no, X! But we can try to keep in some order, right? Like, don't post a D subject until there's a C subject (which there is, I know).

Humor me?

Well, well, so lets get back to the letter at hand, shall we?
I THink Batavia, as a small town is always my favorite to travel back to. Riding over Nelson Lake Road, all hilly, and remember when we used to all ride our bikes to the bog? ahh. the bog. anyone have any memeories about that place. Watchin the beaver build his dam was pretty neat, but that is all I got.
I feel for ya Beth. Drinvin in the Car with dad. I used to think you were so lucky. YOu and dad, always buddies, hangin out, eatin m n m's, or skittles, while I had to go to the GoGo's concert.
Hmph!
I wanted to stay with you two, and watch tv and eat candy. What a great plan. But no. I had to go to my first concert, the GoGo's.
What was your two's first concert?
I remeber going to Jeanette Joerg's house and thinkin that her mom knew I would be comin over. BUt then I had to go home. Sad. I wanted to play with her.
I remember that sparky little dog down by the cattails, that would bark at us when we were on our bikes, and then we would ride away as fast as we could. I remeber banging those cattails on the side of the fence and watchin all the fuzz fly in the air.
THose were happy times.
Plaing cops and robbers, with our dinky burders. where did that name come from?
I remeber puking at Beths birthday, at the foot of the stairs and then sitting at the top of the stairs in my dress watching other kids run by, but knowing I was too sick to come down.
I remeber having chicken pocks at grandmas.
Uncle Tony watching the cubs game while we napped..aka, playing quietly.
I remeber sneaking down the stairs to look for santa, and seein mom and dad instead.
I think there was a time that I was sleep walkin. And I would stand on the stairs and watch mom and dad in the living room. I swear. I was sleep walkin when I was little, can anyone confirm or deny this? I think i was real young.and half asleep.

YOu all are so funny to read over this. Such good words. Funny stories and quirky ways of tellin them.
I love it.
I laugh.
HOw can we get Jolie involved? I think we should try to get her a printed copy of what we got going so far.
hmmm?

Meggoo, great Batavia memories and comments! the bog and cattails.
Hey, sorry if i was short with you on the tele this weekend. ive been a bit outta sorts lately, and i find myself getting ticked off and grumpy more often than i should. just kinda edgy. was particularly that way on sat. sorry to take it out on you. no excuse for that!
ok.. so we're on Bs, right?

B is for Scott Peterson bologna, the only kind mom would get. that and spiced ham, chicken loaf, sometimes honey smoked turkey and always lorraine swiss cheese and hellman's mayonnaise made up many a lunch in Batavia. yuk! what do you eat for lunch now, sissies?

B is also for breakfast. no sugar cereals in the house growing up! i think that's why i became addicted to them when i got to college. mmmm, apple jacks and corn pops and fruity pebbles! don't eat em any more, but, wow, did i love em. could eat whole bozes in one sitting. but in Batavia, breakfast was Kix and Life and sometimes pancakes and dad's eternal granola, and what else? these days, i have coffee for breakfast. eating in the morning makes me sleepy and gross feeling. i love breakfast diners and vegan breakfast food, but rarely eat em for breaksfast. even when i work brunch at the restaurant, i never eat til later. how bout yall? what do you have? what's yer ideal breakfast and lunch?

my ideal breakfast is miso soup and steamed fish and maybe brown rice. and sesame seeds. like at 11am or so. and my ideal lunch is BIIIIG with lots of grilled and/or steamed fish, lots of spinach, lots of lemon juice on both of those, and lots of wine. and then a hardy siesta!

how bout you???

lots of things to answer to. Lessgo with Megoo's, first:

I don't remember the bog at all. Where was it? I do remember the cattails. Wonderful fuzzy things against my face. I find them sometimes now and they make me very nostalgic.

It was Reese's Pieces that Dad and I ate when we stayed home from the Go-Gos. I think you were picked to go to the concert, Meg. I never liked popular music when I was little, but you used to let our big sisters pin Michael Jackson buttons on you, and you'd always dance to the radio music. But I do remember that bowl of Reese's Pieces - we NEVER got candy. We even had to give our halloween candy away to the retirement homes, right? I think this is the best memory I have of spending time with Dad, though. We played board games all night long on the floor. In Batavia.

I didn't remember you sleepwalking until you said something. I think you did. Mom would remember best, but I vaguely remember leading you back to bed at night on a semi-regular basis. You definitely used to talk in your sleep. I would play games, answering you with funny words to see what you'd say back. But mostly I remember telling you everything was ok, to go back to sleep. Jesse talks in his sleep now, and I like to play the same games.

Dinky burders were those little yellow 2-wheeler bikes we had, Aimee. They were teeny tiny and Christie named them dinky burders.

I told Jolie about all this. She doesn't have internet access at Michael and Nick's. Well, she does, but she doesn't feel comfortable using their computer, I guess. And her eyesight is so bad now that I'm sure that's a factor, too. I don't know what we should do. Maybe read the postings to her. Let's take turns calling her and reading stuff. Maybe.

Aimee's questions:

My favorite lunch is miso soup and sushi rolls. Tempura shrimp rolls with avocado, and california rolls. Yum. Really, everything else sits hard like a lump. As does the sushi when I eat too much. There's a 3-rolls-for-$10 place not far. Sometimes I feel obligated to eat all 3 in one sitting. But I don't usually get miso soup and sushi rolls. Usually it's leftovers from last night's dinner or pasta because I have dance rehearsal at night. I had mole fajitas on Friday and vichyssoise today. The soup is made from leeks from our garden. It's sooo good warm. And I refuse to eat when the herds eat, 11:30 or 12. Makes me feel like an animal. Besides, every place is full up and the waiters go crazy. I prefer lunch around 1:30 or 2.

My favorite breakfast out is 49er flapjacks from Original House of Pancakes. If I can't get 'em, I settle for Swedish pancakes. Any thin type is good. My fav breakfast in is cinnamon sugar-type instant cream of wheat. I know it's sugary, but I love love love it. It's really expensive, though. I hate that. It's really only good in the winter. I also make raspberry scones a lot, and eat these mid-morning. They taste just like the 3rd Coast scones. Lovely. I read in that Eat Right For Your Type blood type book that Mom likes that breakfast should be my biggest meal. I second that. I'd eat breakfast all day, if I could.

Let's see.

When I'm hungover, I need eggs, any way. Best is with hash browns and toast. Next best is on a bagel with american cheese product. Wish they had vegan options in Denver. It's nothing like NYC. When I'm camping, I go for Got Lean fake sausage with eggs. In the woods. Yum. I have a really hard time with breakfast in the summer. Nothing feels right, but I feel wronged when 10am comes around and I have nothing to eat.

Boy, can't wait until we get to F for Food.

I don't remember my first rock concert. I think it was with you or Chris Tharp at the Metro or something.

Wow! I never guessed you two to be such big sushi fans.
I think for while you are all here we should just make sushi everyday. And miso soup.
I sure would be the cheapest thing.
We could go for breakfast, and aimee can have her coffee and Beth could get her bog thin flapjacks. What about Joile.? Someone ask her, what are her favorite meals?
Me? I like Yogurt, either peach or vanilla. With a nice fruit in it. And I like hazelnut sweetened coffee.

But for lunch. Well. I guess I just skip lunch most days and go straight for dinner. I do like a granola bar as a snack-a-roo for when I am getting a bit edgy.
I get like poppa. If I don't eat, I get nasty.
If I had to pick a lunch it would definetly be the salad bar at whole foods. and a big bowl of soup from the soup box. We HAVE to go there when you all are visiting.IT IS SO GOOD! I guess I like soup and salad for lunch and dinner.

NO pasta cravings, but I do like to make fish at home. Mostly baked. After I soak it in soy milk, I coat it with crushed crackers or whatever craker-like things I have in the house, and voila! Baked right off in buttered pan until its flaky. MM. it is the best with steamed edemame, and some indian curry sauce.

ok. lets get movin on this alphabet. I can't wait til we get to F either, Beth.

Jolie Says:

I'm not a big breakfast person. I like to eat lunchy-type foods for breakfast, preferably around 10 or 11 in the morning. I like veggie burgers with lots of mayonnaise and french fries with lots of mayonnaise. I like thai lunch specials, curries. But I only like mexican food every once in a while. Have to get an appetite for it. I like cranberry juice with seltzer water. And that's about it. I like japanese food a bit sometimes, too. And fish sometimes too. Everything you guys said sounds good, too. Except yogurt - I don't like yogurt. And I don't like those lunch meats. Although sometimes I get a craving for turkey.

I do like pastas. I think beth does too. Aimee seems to eat no carbohydrates, although she won't tell us she's on Atkins.

I love potatoes. I love potatoes and vegan gravy. And more potatoes. And I don't see how potatoes can be bad for me. And I don't get fat from eating potatoes. I get fat from eating lots of dairy products. And I don't really get fat. So blah. Blog.
