LMA Was Kinda Right

Drawing out and aggregating the musings, expressions, rants, drawings, textual weavings, and otherwise passionate craftings of and between four not-ficticious, not-so-little women. And their momma.

B is for Buckeyes that we will eat at our holiday party!

Ok! Since nobody added recipes to the last post, we'll move the discussion here. Let's start brainstorming a menu for our holiday feastival!

Whaddoyou think? Finger foods?

- buckeyes
- chocolate fondue (bread, fruit)
- cookies we like (or from the Swedish Bakery, tho baking them is fun)
- spinach salad
- sushi (or not)
- fancy cocktails
- red wine
- mom's tomato bread
- other tapas?

We might want to make sure our menu isn't too big. We don't want to end up spending too much time in the kitchen. Or maybe we do? And, let it be known that i will gladly defer all menu ideas to Meg.

Can everyone make the 23rd?

Might I add for the record:
*Key lime pie martinis rimmed with crushed graham crackers
Recipe: white creme de cacao, roses lime, ½ and ½, shaken
*Peppermint martinis
Working on this recipe. Maybe peppermint schnappes and vanilla vodka, maybe a little creme de menthe; the inside of the glass will be swirley stripes of grenadine. And of course the drink will be creamy, so bring on the (organic) ½ and ½.
Recipe for Peppermint Stick by www.cocktaildb.com: 1½ oz brandy, ½ oz orange curacao, ½ oz peppermint schnappes, dash orange bitters. No cream. Yum.
*Frozen brandy alexanders
Recipe, per cocktaildb: creme de cacao, brandy, ½ and ½.
*Of course, plain old martinis with olives and vermouth and all that. With candy canes.

I also want to make the cookies. And decorate them. Nicely.

So I had this idea of a very simple style food offering. Sweets are good, and so is a fish, and some nice cheese, maybe only 2 kinds.
But I would like to look into a case of wine, and I will let you know about the prices of a zinfandel.
Momma could make her tomato bread on beths recipe for Pizza crust..yields 2
2c. Flour
1/2tsp.salt
1/2tsp.dry yeast
1/2tsp. honey.
then
3/4c.105degree water,less 1Tbsp.
1/4c. Oil

And that way she doesn't just have toast and tomatoes.
I would like to have nice cucumber sanwiches with nice spreads. Maybe a creamy tofu veggie spread with fresh chives. and a pb and banana with honey.

So, I can see working out a list. No stress about that.
And as far as an invite. Well, I will send some out to my friends, and send one off to momma, as long as beth cuts and pastes aimees words onto an e-mail for me. Cause I can't do that stuff very well.

I am thinking that we need to get some help with the music. maybe a few homemade cds. or someone will get an ipod and fill it with all sorts of songs and I can get the rest of the stereo. Reciever and speakers. But the arduous task of music should be made easy.
Any suggestions?
we can get an ipod and return it after we used it.

Also, I think we definetly need to leave cook county to get the booze. Taxes here are SKY high and it would save us $$ if we just took a 20 minute trip to the burbs.

can someone send me Jolies Number?
Aimee, hows about a few suggestions of Zinfandels.
hmmm.
I'm off to lunch!

oh, meggoo! what a lovely post!

nice cucumber sandwiches and spreads? how cute! and simple sounds very very good. mmm, two kinds of fish!

as for zins, i have two fabulous suggestions:
1. Peachy Canyon (2002 Incredible Red is affordable, and would be a good buy in a case. other Peachy Canyon zins are more pricy, and way yummy.)

2. Dashe Cellars (Dry Creek 2000 & 2001) my absolute favs. if you could get a case of one of these, i'd totally pay for it. 2003's ok, but way inflated over the $30 mark due to the new Dry Creek crop.

mom loves something from Flora Springs. i think their 2003 cab, maybe? we should ask her and get at least a few bottles of this.

thanks for all the planning, meggoo! keep it up!

1999 merlot for mom.

Aimee says mom's tomato bread is better with rustic bread. Maybe we should stick to that. But thanks for posting my recipe, megoo. We'll make pizza one night for just us.

Smoked salmons? What other kind of fishes? Oh, shrimps! On skewers maybe.

And yay for cheese. Yes! A good cheddar and a nice brie, I think. We can even make the brie en crote and cover it with a lovely caramel-almond type sauce.

momma likes the 99 flora springs merlot. can't find it anywhere. oh well.

other zin possibilities:
maybe a 2000 D-Cubed (a woman-run vineyand)

or we could get one of the oregon pinot noirs that meggoo digs. chehalem or christom or K?

NO BAD WINE AT THIS PARTY!

also, ive been very much wanting to get meself an ipod. maybe i will, and, for my bday present, yall can get me some downloads for it!

That would be a nice birthday present. Can't you download from your own cds and stuff?

I want an ipod too.

Hey you all.
I am happy to post a note today.
I hope you are all hangin in there with Jolie. I wish I wasn't sick. I would be there too.

But as far as this party.
I would like to think that the planning must go on.
I like 2 fish. Scallops and Shrimp. I know a great place to get scallops and I heard Beth, that you make a mean skewered shrimp.
2 Cheeses. Brie. and cheddar, a nice sharp british one. mm. maybe we can get these at Trader JOes. El-cheapo cheese.
I will keep on looking for the wines you suggested. And see that we don't get nothin we really don't want to drink.
Mommas tomato bread would taste better on the Rustic bread. and I will get her all set up for makin that, just like she used to? is it right that she doenst remember making a tomato bread?

Sheesh! Well on with the planning. I will try some little sanwich spreads out and see whats what. and Make sure that we are not going overboard with the food. It should be plentiful, but not bountiful.

I like the cheese brie,
It is real good when its softy.
The wine should be red and bold.
And mommas house should not be decorated all in gold.
There will be no fondue,
for it will be a big mess,
So sorry Beth.
I think it will be better to have it on christmas eve.
Some apples and soup and some nice cheese.
